The Greenman motif is found in many cultures from many ages around the world. The Green Man is often related to natural vegetative deities. It is primarily interpreted as a symbol of rebirth, representing the cycle of growth each spring.
This plaque features a stern-faced green man surrounded by holly and evergreen sprouts. His beard is made entirely of holly leaves and berries, while his mustache and eyebrows are simple sprigs of evergreen needles. The foliage that surrounds the green man and makes up his hair is composed of both holly and evergreen sprouts. He also features a pair of deer-like horns, which sprout from his head, just above the eyebrows.
